Jazz Labs are FREE and suitable for all ages, offering a behind-the-scenes look at making music that includes artist talks, master classes, and interactive concerts. Jazz Labs are part of the Halifax Jazz Festivals Music Education Program, which includes the Creative Music Workshop.

African Drumming with Henry Bishop

Dr. Bishop is a NSCAD graduate with a (Hon.) PhD of Fine Arts & Child Psychology Degree (Dalhousie). He educates youth with special needs as well as offers various academic programs with a focus on music, history and wellness.

He is African-Nova Scotian and hails from Weymouth Falls, Digby County. He currently specializes and teaches Djembe Drumming when not performing as a “guest” percussionist in local bands.

Join in the fun!  Award-winning duo Razzmatazz for Kids will get you and your kids singing, hopping, laughing, and clapping your hands to their playful, interactive children's songs. Combining comedy and music, Sandy Greenberg and Thomas Cormier have been spreading joy to young audiences for over 25 years at festivals, special events and schools in Canada, the U.S., France, and the U.K.  Sesame Street created a video of their song, “Going to my Grandma's”, and Symphony Nova Scotia has welcomed Razzmatazz as a featured performer.  They have won an East Coast Music Award and three Music Nova Scotia Awards.

Have you been curious how jazz musicians do what they do, but were too afraid to ask? Trombonist and educator Nathaniel Jenkins breaks down the basic elements of the tradition of jazz improvisation from the bottom up, in an informative workshop for all.
