Jazz Night at The Local (Moynihan, Pupo, Hynes)
The longest running jazz night in Halifax, featuring the trio of Damien Moynihan on drums, Ronald J Hynes on bass, and Silvio Pupo on piano. The trio are some of the most in-demand backing musicians on the scene, and come together each week for a night of standards, originals and unique takes on popular tunes.

Ally Fiola Quartet
Ally Fiola, a Nova Scotian saxophonist, film composer, and bandleader of The Next Quest, blends quirky melodies with joyous grooves inspired by funk, soul, and New Orleans brass bands. Her emotionally charged compositions, including “Thoughts of Home” from her latest album, earned her a nomination at the 2022 Marvin Hamlisch International Music Awards. Ally’s recent jazz album, Interblaze, features Grammy- winning saxophonist Jeff Coffin and other top-tier musicians, exploring themes of grief and passion. With a background including the Banff Centre for Arts & Creativity and performances in London and France, Ally’s artistry resonates worldwide, connecting diverse audiences through her expressive music.

James Shaw Quartet
James Shaw is a Halifax based saxophonist, composer, arranger and educator. Shaw leads several groups in Halifax, NovaScotia, including his Vesuvius Big Band which he writes, directs and performs with. Shaw is an active freelance musician in the Maritimes, performing and recording with a variety of groups and genres.

CMW Plays the Music of Nicole Rampersaud
Trumpet Player, Composer, and Improviser, and CMW Faculty member Nicole Rampersaud has a singular voice that intersects with a broad range of musical practices and traditions. Her solo performances are well known and widely lauded for creating compelling sonic worlds that combine spontaneous lyricism and an extensive timbral palette through remarkable technical command of her instrument.

Playing for Jay: An Evening of Music, Dance, Love and Appreciation for Jay Clayton
MacKelvie, Dourado, Blake, Rampersaud, Cameron, Granelli, Chui, Burns, Gilhespy, Maclean plus guests.
The Creative Music Workshop Faculty pays tribute to pioneering vocal master, and supreme improvisor Jay Clayton. The history of CMW is intertwined with the music of Jay Clayton, being a long time collaborator of Jerry Granelli, and CMW guest faculty countless times over the years. In December 2023 the world lost Jay, but her contributions live on, as exemplified by this celebratory concert dedicated to her.

After eight days of intensive learning, the students of the Creative Music Workshop come to the forefront for this culminating concert.
